• Tariffs: The EU threatens "countermeasures" to the US

The US government announced Wednesday that it will begin on October 18 to impose sanctions on the European Union (EU) following the ruling of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which today decided in favor of Washington a prolonged trade dispute.

"The US will begin imposing WTO-approved tariffs on certain EU goods starting October 18," Foreign Trade Chief Robert Lighthizer said in a statement.

In a long-awaited ruling, the WTO determined that Washington can impose trade sanctions worth 7.5 billion dollars (about 6.9 billion euros) annually on the EU, but the Foreign Trade Office explained that, for now, tariffs will be increased in 10% of the large civil aircraft that the community club sells to the US and 25% to certain agricultural products.
