Putin declared Russia's readiness to extend gas contract with Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country is ready to extend the contract with Ukraine for pumping gas for a year if a new agreement is not signed, RIA Novosti reported.

“If she (Ukraine. - RT ) is unable to do this (to implement the energy legislation of Europe before the end of the year. - RT ), which is quite likely (there are domestic Ukrainian legislative and political procedures that Ukrainian partners still need to go through, it will not be very easy to do this) ), then we are just ready to extend for some time, say, for a year, the existing pumping contract, ”the president said at the Russian Energy Week forum.

Earlier, Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel said that Kiev, at trilateral gas consultations with EU participation, will offer Russia to conclude a new transit contract for ten years.

In September it was reported that Ukraine would demand compensation from Russia if Gazprom insisted on a new transit contract on the same terms.
