This is a very surprising announcement. Houthi rebels in Yemen propose a "peace initiative". They claim to consider stopping attacks on Saudi Arabia. After five years of war, these militiamen say they hope to put an end to the conflict that devastates their country.

A week ago to the day, Houthi rebels claimed a devastating operation in Saudi Arabia . A double attack on drones against oil installations, deprived Riyadh of 50% of its gross export capacity.

But now, the change is radical. The president of the Houthis Political Council (equivalent of the President of the Republic), Mehdi Machat, appears on television. The date is not chosen at random, it is exactly five years since these Houthi militiamen took Sanaa, the capital .

In his speech, Mehdi Machat, launches a " peace initiative ". He invites all parties to the conflict to reconciliation. Since 2015, Saudi Arabia, at the head of an Arab coalition crushes Yemen in a rain of bombs, under cover of a legitimate intervention at the request of the Yemeni government.

But peace at a price, say the Houthis, Riyadh must in turn stop hostilities and lift its triple blockade, land, air and sea imposed on Yemen.

Through this initiative, the Houthi rebels claim to want to preserve the blood of Yemenis.
