The 2020 budget will be officially presented next Wednesday. If the Armies and the Ecological Transition should benefit from an increase in their subsidies, this will not be the case for Housing and Culture.

The hour of truth is approaching for the ministries: the 2020 budget will be officially presented next Wednesday. As every year, some departments will see their credit increase, others on the contrary will have to tighten their belts.

The big winner for 2020 will be very clearly the Ministry of the Armed Forces, which is entitled to the biggest increase of budget: 1.7 billion euros additional. An increase that supports the ambitions of the government by 2025: improve the lives of our soldiers, especially with the renewal of equipment become obsolete.

300 million savings in public broadcasting

On the second step of the podium, the Ministry of Education: one billion euro increase. An envelope that will fund especially classes to 12 students in large kindergarten section in priority neighborhoods. Nearly elbow-to-elbow on the third step, we find the Health and the Ministry of the Interior, with respectively 800 and 750 million euros of increase. The ecological transition is therefore behind.

On the side of the losers, we find Culture, and more specifically public broadcasting. Some 300 million savings are planned over three years. But the biggest economy will be on Housing, with the reform of LPAs. Starting in January, you will no longer calculate the amount to which you are entitled on your income from previous years, but on those of the current year. And here, the economy is estimated at more than one billion euros per year.
