“Our position is that if European legislation by January 1, 2020 is really implemented in Ukrainian legislation, we are ready to work in accordance with European legislation,” he said during a press-approach.

He explained that Russia is ready from January 1, 2020 to “reserve capacities”.

“However, I want to say that during the consultations we also identified the risks that the Russian side sees in terms of the adoption of relevant laws, regulations, operator’s certifications, as certification should be done by an independent European certification body. And here, of course, there are no guarantees that this will be done in a timely manner by January 1, 2020, ”he added.

The Minister noted that in connection with this, it was proposed, if this is not done before the end of January 1, 2020, to extend the existing contract.

“We proposed to our partners and colleagues if this is not done before January 1, 2020, we will be able to offer partners to extend the existing contract or sign an additional agreement until the regulatory framework and legislation of Ukraine are really ready,” he explained Novak.

Earlier in Brussels completed negotiations on gas transit with the participation of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission.

Novak called trilateral consultations very constructive.
