Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday (September 19th) called on his rival Benny Gantz to join him in forming a national unity government.

It is by his favorite means of communication, social networks, that Benyamin Netanyahu has addressed his main rival. Thirty-six hours after Tuesday's legislative elections that left the country without a clear majority, the outgoing Israeli Prime Minister invited Benny Gantz to a meeting to discuss the formation of a national unity government.

But before launching his call for a national unity government, Benyamin Netanyahu once again received the leaders of the right-wing parties on Thursday morning. All have signed a document in which they pledge to enter a government only together. And who specifies that their candidate for the post of Prime Minister is Benyamin Netanyahu.

Political maneuver

The outgoing head of government wants to present himself not as the leader of his only party - the Likud, which came in second place only in the legislative elections - but as the leader of a whole political camp with 55 seats in Parliament. more than Benny Gantz and the center left bloc without the Arab parties.

This invitation to create a " government of union as broad as possible " launched in the wake of the commitment of the right-wing parties is not a concession of Benyamin Netanyahu. In dictating the terms of the negotiations: to create a right-wing government including religious parties, he knows that Benny Gantz intends to reject his offer. But he tries to discard responsibility for the current stalemate to convince some blue-white elected to join him. Clearly, explode the formation of his rival to obtain a majority. But this strategy failed last May.
