DoCoMo 5G test service to start September 18th 15:21

NTT DoCoMo has announced that it will start high-speed, large-capacity next-generation communication standards and 5G test services at venues such as the Rugby World Cup that will open on the 20th.

According to the announcement, NTT DoCoMo will start a test service on the 20th prior to the 5G service launch scheduled next spring.

Among them, at the Rugby World Cup, the images from multiple cameras installed at the venue can be freely switched by a spectator using smartphones that support 5G and enjoyed from various angles.

On the 18th, for a full-scale 5G service, AR = augmented reality technology will be used to express online game screens in real scenery, and patient CT images will be displayed in 3D in medical settings. Introducing technology that allows doctors to check patient organs at various angles by attaching dedicated goggles.

The company has set up 5G base stations in all 47 prefectures by June next year, and wants to increase to 10,000 nationwide one year later.

Kazuhiro Yoshizawa, president of NTT DoCoMo, said, “I want to prepare a variety of services including base station deployment so that many people can experience 5G.”
