On a visit to Russia, the Israeli Prime Minister was received Thursday, September 12 by President Vladimir Putin in the city of Sochi. The two leaders discussed Iran's activities in Syria, an ally of Moscow. But at five days of legislative elections in Israel, Benyamin Netanyahu also hoped for a political gain from the move and he left without any mark of frank support.

" This is an important visit ," said Benjamin Netanyahu before meeting with Vladimir Putin . And against the Russian president, the Israeli prime minister assured that there was last month " a sharp increase in the attempts of Iranian attacks against Israel from Syria, " justifying his five-day uncertain outcome.

Vladimir Putin has shown his commitment to Israel's security. But the Russian president did not give strong support to the prime minister.

Where Benyamin Netanyahu spoke of a warm personal relationship with his interlocutor, Vladimir Putin, who arrived almost three hours late, said he hoped that " anyone who returns to the Knesset will continue bilateral relations between the two countries ".

Two diplomatic successes before last April's elections

During the election campaign last April, Russia helped return the remains of an Israeli soldier killed in Lebanon in 1982. And Donald Trump had recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Two diplomatic successes for Benyamin Netanyahu that contrast with the lack of notorious results during this new campaign. Donald Trump even insisted on his willingness to meet President Hassan Rohani. A scenario feared by the Israeli Prime Minister.
