In Yemen, the government announces it has taken over Aden, the big city of the south which serves as temporary capital in this country at war. Aden was taken by separatists three weeks ago.

" A total victory for the Yemeni people, " Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani said on Twitter after the government forces took over Aden.

The soldiers entered the city taking over strategic points like the airport and the presidential palace, at the cost of some fighting. Separatists had seized Aden in recent weeks, and also from surrounding areas.

Mediation with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates

According to the Minister of Information, the recapture of the city was made thanks to the sending of important reinforcements. Mediation has also taken place in recent days, with Saudi Arabia supporting the Yemeni government and the United Arab Emirates supporting the separatists.

All were allied within the same camp to fight the Houthi rebels who have been at war with the government since late 2014. But the situation became more complex with the entry of the separatists from the south.

The conflict in Yemen, despite attempts by the UN to mediate, remains as devastating as ever . It has left tens of thousands of victims and caused a serious humanitarian crisis.
