BMW, the German automaker, has introduced for the first time in Japan the latest technology that automatically follows the car in front of you even if you take your hand off the steering wheel on a busy highway.

BMW has introduced a driving support function that automatically follows the previous car on a highway during a traffic jam.

When driving at a speed of 60 km / h or less, when the car is moving forward, you can drive automatically even if you take your hand off the steering wheel, and the accelerator and brake are also automatically operated.

However, the driver needs to look forward, and the camera installed in the car detects the line of sight, and if it is not looking forward, a warning is issued.

According to the company, this is the first time that these technologies have been introduced in Japan, and some models sold domestically since last November, as well as new cars, can be equipped later.

BMW Japan's Yasunari Midate product manager said, “We can drive in a relaxed state when there is a traffic jam on the weekend after returning home. We want to continue development so that drivers can drive safely in the future.”

Nissan is also planning to release a car with a function that can automatically change lanes if the hand is held on the expressway next month.
