After Japan's economic retaliation, there is a high voice that machine tools, which are essential equipment in the manufacturing industry, should be speeded up in localization. Our industry also exports overseas, but most of the core software is dominated by Japanese products.

Machine tools that cut or compress many materials, such as metal, to produce sophisticated parts are called machine-making machines, or "mother machines."

We are also exporting our industry as essential equipment for the manufacturing industry, including the automotive and aviation industries.

The problem is that 90% of the CNC, the core software that commands these machine tools to work, is made in Japan.

Technology has been ahead, but it's been a standard for many years, and it's not easy to replace it.

[Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Dankook Univ .: If you regulate (CNC) exports in Japan, I think it will be a big wave to produce automated machine tools in Korea.]

Domestic CNC development is also in progress, but the scope of application is still limited.

[Kim, Kyung-Dong / Director of the Machine Tool Industry Association: (Domestic Silver) It is used for some low-grade machines or engravers, but it is still reliable and product specifications are not used.

If Japan controls exports, it can be replaced with German ones, but the production process must be changed and the personnel retrained for the new software, which can result in six to one year production gaps and additional costs.

The industry has entered an emergency system.

[Hyundai Wia official: It is difficult to predict whether or not to regulate CNC exports, so we are examining various scenarios internally and looking for countermeasures.]

As it is a core equipment of the manufacturing industry and the situation is likely to prolong, the intensive support for speeding up the localization is urgent.
