Starting October 1st, Amazon will increase its sales costs in France. A way to pass on to its French sellers Gafa tax set up by the government.

Amazon will increase by 3% its commissions on French sellers who use its platform. This corresponds to the amount of the new tax "Gafa" that the giants of the Net will have to pay on their turnover achieved in France.

The leader of e-commerce is justified by the fact that it is not able to absorb this new tax, because of the " very competitive " sector in which it operates and the important investments made in recent years. That did not stop him from making more than $ 2.6 billion in net earnings in the second quarter.

The Gafa soap opera is just beginning. This decision of Amazon could emulate, even if the other giants of the Net like Google and Facebook have not expressed themselves, for the moment.

Definitively adopted on July 11 in France, the tax "Gafa" creates a taxation of the big companies of the technological sector not on the profit, often consolidated in countries with very low taxation like Ireland, but on the turnover, pending harmonization of rules at the OECD level.

It provoked strong reactions across the Atlantic. Criticizing the "stupidity" of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron , US President Donald Trump has already threatened to overtax French wines in retaliation.
