United Nations Special Rapporteur Agnès Callamard has called in a report for the continuation of the sanctions imposed by several countries against 17 individuals for their role in this murder in October in Istanbul. She also asks that Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman be included.

The crown prince and strongman of the kingdom must be the subject of an international criminal investigation. This is advocated by Agnès Callamard, UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions. It even adds that the sanctions that already target 17 Saudi personalities should be extended: " given the credible evidence regarding the responsibilities of the Crown Prince in his assassination, such sanctions should also include the Crown Prince and his personal property abroad " .

She investigated for six months the assassination of the Saudi journalist. She went to Turkey, the United States and several European countries including France. She could not go to Saudi Arabia: the kingdom refused to open its door to Agnès Callamard's team.

An internal affair for the Saudis

Saudi Arabia considers that the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi is an internal affair. A lawsuit is currently underway in the country, because Riyadh assures that the Saudi journalist was killed in an operation carried out without the agreement of Saudi power.

This thesis is disputed by the report made public this Wednesday, June 19th. He also urges the UN Secretary General to conduct a " thorough " investigation into the role of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his adviser Saud Al Qahtani.
