The ilicitana actress gives life to the ambiguous character of Virginia Woolf, a role that has "transformed" her

Rebeca Sala (Elche, 1985) saw her career turn around in an instant. The ambiguous character of Virginia Woolf , able to change sex and live 300 years, joined his stage with Orlando, with his fixed character in the television series The Secret of Old Bridge . After several months in which he had to demand the most, he now looks forward to the premiere in Madrid.

After two years of touring, "Orlando" arrives in Madrid. Does it impose? Yes, it imposes. We have been doing it since 2017 for people, let's say, unknown. Now 80% of the room will be filled by people from the profession: acquaintances, actors, directors, producers, distributors, programmers ... Although we have been doing it for two years I will have the mini nervousness "this is Madrid and the Teatros del Canal". In fact, I will write to the directors of casting ... And this does not happen when you go to Andorra town, although they treated us great, like when we were in Ceuta. The reception in cities that do not have so many premieres is different, isn't it? They told us they don't program many things, which they usually fill with 80, 100 people. We had 300. And in the applause it was noted that he liked it very much. And he has always liked it. You can tell the public if it is colder or more than a laugh. It is spread and depends on the day and people. But with the applause they have been unanimous. In the first performances there were up to four cheers and that I had not seen in the theater. Have you been able to coordinate your performances on stage with television? I don't know what adventure has been heavier, whether that of Orlando or mine ! The day we premiered in northern Spain, on November 2, 2017, I was driving back ... and studying the casting of The Secret of Old Bridge with my partner Gustavo Galindo. "Help me with the circumstances," he said. It was Sunday and I had the test on Monday. It was crazy. And they called me a week later, so they started the theatrical tour and the series at the same time. Did the effort take a toll on me? I have a spa in the gym and I just wanted it to arrive on Sunday to go half an hour to not think and talk nobody. You stop having social life directly. There is no space. Orlando is a work of almost two hours in which I only rest three minutes that know me to glory. It's crazy: we jump, we dance, we make fencing, we run, we go from one country to another. So many things happen that it is exhausting. And it requires a lot of precision, because it is a comedy and it is very choppy, with four biographers that are transformed into characters. And while Orlando has changed places, sex ... And since we had a function every two weeks at the beginning we were not very trained. But after three or four months you get used to it. Borges called Woolf's novel "unclassifiable" ... It was very difficult to do the dramaturgy. In fact nobody in Spain had dared. And I know that several directors tried, but it was very difficult to take and take action because of the way it is written: as a biography in which almost everything is thoughts. In our work there is action, there is comedy and there is the irony that Woolf expressed in his novel, which was not for everyone, adapted marvelously well by Vanessa Martín. How has it been working with her? Very enriching. He proposed a very curious way of working, which was not usual. I've been in the theater for 15 years and most of it focuses on the text, which you learn sooner or later. She has done as in The heinous: begin to create based on the study of circumstances and characters with improvisations that we did the actors in groups, even changing roles. From there he was riding an approximate dramaturgy, adding, removing and rewriting. We did it with each episode for four or five months and we continued with a working progress: we contrasted what we had done, half function, with colleagues and family members to receive their feedback. That helped to create a rich work, full of details, subtlety and with several layers of reading. Has the character marked him a lot? He has been curious and magical at the same time. At the same time that I started with Orlando I started a very interesting process of transformation, of realizing many things. It would also be a coincidence, he turned 33 ... It was a particular moment. It has been a very intense process, of inner search, of doing things that I had never done (and that I am not going to tell here), of experiencing and finding oneself.
