How to masculinize a man's face thanks to cosmetic surgery? It is a trend that seems to be emerging among the patients of cosmetic surgeons. "Currently there are male icons like Brad Pitt with a very developed jaw or Javier Bardem, typical Latin icon: some men want to have a more masculine face", explains on Europe 1 Catherine Bergeret-Galley, plastic and aesthetic surgeon . The temples, the chin, the jaw

"There are young people who need to have a more assertive face in their masculinity, and there are young people who have faces like a knife blade: no cheekbones, no chin. We can help them with maxillofacial surgeons who re-align the dental joint ", explains the surgeon. "You have to do what is appropriate for the patient, which will bring him mental and physical well-being."

"It is very important not to rush: we work on photos, we possibly do simulation", specifies Catherine Bergeret-Galley. "We are trying to understand the importance of the modification that the patient" wishes ". To make a face more manly, surgeons can work on several areas: sunken temples," less round, less full than women ", nose, chin or even a correction of the angles of the jaw.

Raising the eyebrow relief using grafts or prostheses

"At the level of the jaw we can increase, restore volume to the chin. We can give it a try with hyaluronic acid, but if we want a result that lasts longer we can do it either with fat , if the increase is not too great for the soft parts ", explains the doctor. If the patient's case requires an increase in the bone parts, surgeons prefer silicone prostheses. To perform the intervention, they make a small incision either at the level of the skin below the chin, or endo-buccally.

On the forehead, it is possible to raise the eyebrow relief thanks to bone grafts or prostheses. The temples can be filled in. The surgeon also does bariatric surgery, or obesity surgery. Some of his patients lose a lot of weight but keep their breasts or cheeks pronounced. "In these cases it is absolutely necessary to lipo-aspirate the bottom of the cheeks. And possibly restore a little volume at the level of the cheekbones."

Outpatient procedures, which require rest

Cosmetic surgery interventions aimed at virilizing the face are mostly done on an outpatient basis, these are day surgeries. On the other hand, Catherine Bergeret-Galley warns, it is necessary to take 6 to 8 days of rest after certain interventions such as the jaw, for example. "Violent" sports should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. The area is sensitive and may cause a change in diet.

As for the cost of operations, it varies according to the importance of the transformations carried out. "We are between 2,500 or even 8,000 to 10,000 euros", explains Catherine Bergeret-Galley. "But it may be in several sessions. The main thing is to stay on the safety side and not do too much." The surgeon recalls the importance of performing acts gradually to grasp her new face and know how to stop.
