The coronavirus is coming and definitely, everything is going crazy.

Even no more big top or tier for this Seoul circus: to avoid any risk of coronavirus contamination, it is in front of spectators in their cars that the clown and acrobats of this South Korean company perform this weekend. drive-in cinema in the United States of the 1960s.

Show must go on

, whatever it is through a windshield.

The annual show, which normally takes place in May, has already been postponed twice due to the pandemic.

And so that the circus is not a vector of the disease, the organizers have finally found the solution: to offer an outdoor show, on the “drive-in” mode.

“It is very important that the circus arts can perform, including during a pandemic,” says Cho Beong-hee, director of the Seoul Street Arts Creation Center.

Adapt your performance

“So we looked for other ideas to make the show happen, and the drive-in option was chosen because it seemed the safest.

For each performance, 30 cars are allowed to park in front of the stage, and the show is also broadcast free online.

Remoteness from the audience is a new challenge, as Lee Sung-hyung, one of the artists, explains: “I had to rethink my performance.

And it is the blasts of the horns that accompany the flights of the acrobats, whose ropes are held by cranes.

In the audience, Yu Hye-jin said she was satisfied, “Watching the show in your car is great,” she said.

“It's an experience that could be reissued in the future, especially for musicals.
