A man in his 40s was arrested by the police when he was caught stealing food from a farmhouse installed on a farmland in Buk-gu, Gwangju, and assaulting his owner and running away.

Today (20th), the Gwangju Northern Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A in his 40s, who was charged with assaulting the farm owner with an umbrella (quasi-robbery, etc.) when he was caught stealing bread and drinks from a farmhouse.

According to the police, Mr. A broke the lock of a farmhouse in Seokgok-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju around 5 a.m. on the 14th of last month and stole bread, drinks, and canned beer.

Farm owner B in his 70s, who was suspicious of the fact that the food in the refrigerator was disappearing little by little, came out to the farm early that day and witnessed the crime scene of Mr. A.

When Mr. B shouted, "Why are you stealing?", Mr. A was surprised and assaulted Mr. B with his fists and umbrellas, and then ran back to the mountain.

The police, who started the investigation, confirmed that there were no CCTVs in the area where the crime took place, and started an undercover investigation.

At the time of the arrest, it was revealed that Mr. A was living in a hut in the nearby hillside with his bushy hair and shabby clothes on.

Person A, who did not have a fixed income, said during the police investigation, "I could not overcome my hunger and stole food because I did not have money for living."

Person A, who had a history of treatment for mental illness, cut off contact with his family and lived in a hut in the mountains, and it was found that he was unaware that he was selected as a recipient of basic livelihood security.

The police confirmed the four other crimes, including the theft of Mr. A, and applied for an arrest warrant and said, "Even if he is arrested, he will be able to receive treatment at the treatment center."
