Nasa unveiled this Thursday new striking photos taken by Ingenuity, its helicopter currently in operation on Mars.

The craft captured the area days earlier where the Perseverance rover landed in February 2021, reports

.

In total, Ingenuity took ten incredibly sharp color photos as it flew over Jezero Crater, in which Perseverance landed.

On the pictures, we can clearly see the parachute and the cone which softened the fall of the NASA rover on Mars.

On each of its flights, the Martian helicopter flies over a new area and photographs it to document the red planet.

We spy with our little eyes…rover landing gear!

During the #MarsHelicopter's 26th flight, it took photos of the entry, descent, & landing gear @NASAPersevere needed to safely land on Mars.

You can see the protective backshell & massive dusty parachute.

Ingenuity continues on its way

These images provide a lot of information to NASA engineers, who can thus see that the landing of Perseverance went well.

Indeed, the machines arriving on Mars are subjected to great gravitational forces, high or even extreme temperatures, all at the speed of 20,000 km/h.

The rover's hull thus hit the ground of Mars at 126 km/h.

"The protective coating of the back shell appears to have remained intact during the entry into the Martian atmosphere, specify the researchers.

Many of the 80 lines [cables connecting the canopy of a parachute] are visible and also appear intact.

Ingenuity will continue its missions on Mars.

The small helicopter should have stopped working after a month and five test flights, but it has already completed 26 trips.

Thanks to the images it provides, NASA will be able to better prepare its future Martian missions.
