Typhoon 'Ohmais', the 12th typhoon, is rapidly moving north toward the Korean Peninsula and is expected to land on the southern coast around midnight tonight (23rd).

Although it is a small typhoon, it is expected to cause heavy rains of up to 400 mm in the southern region along with strong winds.

The first news is reported by Ahn Young-in, a reporter.

Strong rain clouds continue to come in over the West Sea, and Typhoon 'Omais' is heading north in the far sea south of Seogwipo.

Typhoon 'Ohmais' will pass through Jeju Island at about 9 pm tonight and land on the southern coast near Namhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, at around midnight, the Korea Meteorological Administration believes.

The current small typhoon 'Omais' is highly likely to transform into a temperate cyclone after landing.

However, rain and wind are expected across the country until tomorrow as a typhoon and a low pressure approaching from the west overlap.

Until tomorrow, localized heavy rain of 100 to 300 mm is expected in Jeju and southern regions, and up to 400 mm in the southern coast and mountainous areas of Jeju Island.

In the central region, which is mainly affected by low pressure, there will be heavy rain of 150mm to 200mm at most.

In particular, strong winds exceeding 30 m/s and 100 km/h are expected to strike in Jeju Island and the southern regions.

The Korea Meteorological Administration urged thorough preparation, saying that the biggest turning point is expected between tonight and tomorrow morning, when the typhoon passes through the southern provinces.
