The city of Seoul today (19th) published '2020 Seoul Gender Statistics: Current Status of Work-Life Balance of Seoul citizens' and announced the results of this analysis.



According to the National Statistical Office's'Living Hours Survey' cited by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, women living in Seoul totaled 2 hours and 26 minutes of domestic work per day and 41 minutes for men.




In a dual-income couple in Seoul, women spend 2 hours and 1 minute working on housework and 38 minutes for men, which is 3.7 times higher than that of men.

In dual-income families, women's household burden was greater than the average for the entire household.




As of 2019, the participation rate of women in Seoul's economic activities was 55.2%, an increase of 2.7 percentage points from 2015.

The analysis shows that women's participation in economic activities increased by 1.6 percentage points to 19.0%, down 1.6 percentage points from four years ago.




However, the percentage of women working less than 36 hours a week has also increased.

Although the rate of participation in economic activities increased, the rate of part-time and non-regular workers also increased.

As of 2019, the percentage of women working less than 36 hours per week of paid work was 26.6%, up 5.4 percentage points from four years ago.

The proportion of male workers in the same category is 9.9%, which is one-third of women.



The average hourly wage of women was 15,037 won, which was about 5,000 won less than men who received 2,682 won.

The percentage of workers with an average monthly wage of less than 2 million won was 44.2% for women and 17.3% for men.




The proportion of men among the recipients of parental leave has risen from 5.4% in 2015 to 20.0% in four years.

The male proportion of recipients of reduced working hours during childcare also increased from 7.1% in 2015 to 12.0% in 2019.



Kim Ki-hyun, the Seoul Women's Policy Officer, said, "The results of this gender statistic will be used as basic data when promoting the Seoul gender equality policy and work-life balance policy."
