A man in his late 30s who raped an employee with a brick prepared in advance in a karaoke room in Seoul was caught after 14 years.

The 12th Division of the Criminal Agreement of the Seoul Eastern District Law (President Judge Park Sang-gu) announced today (27th) that he sentenced Mr. A to a sentence of eight years in prison for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (injuries such as rape).

In June 2006, Mr. A raped Mr. B, who lost consciousness, after smashing the head of Mr. B working at a karaoke room with a brick.

Mr. A even painted B's face with a broken beer bottle during the crime.

However, despite the fact that the perpetrator's DNA remained at the crime scene, the crime of Mr. A remained unresolved for 14 years because it was not possible to specify whose identity.

Afterwards, Mr. B was taken to the hospital, but he was injured in his head and was unable to regain consciousness for eight days, and he was treated for over a month.

It is known that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and panic disorder due to the trauma she suffered during the crime.

However, when the statute of limitations expired in 2016, a case that was almost unresolved was reversed after the sexual assault case, when a police report was filed in September last year.

The suspect in this sexual assault case was Mr. A.

During the investigation of the case, the DNA of the suspect, Mr. A, was collected and inquired, and found that the DNA of the suspect in the rape case 14 years ago matched that of Mr. A.

In principle, the statute of limitations for the 2006 case ended, but it was revived under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, which stipulates that "if there is scientific evidence to prove the crime, such as DNA, the statute of limitations is extended up to 10 years."

Mr. A insisted in the court 14 years after the crime, "He was drunk at the time of the incident, and his ability to discriminate objects and decision-making was in a weak state," but the judge said, "The defendant started a planned crime that was enough to prepare bricks in advance. Even after entering, I talked with the victim. The investigative agency also stated that the defendant was not in a state of being drunk," he did not accept.

The judge continued, "For the past 14 years, the defendant seems to have lived without feeling any guilty, but the victim lived in excruciating pain and trembling with anxiety without knowing who the offender was. The scars still remain clearly on the head and face." "Considering the pain that the victim may have suffered, severe punishment is inevitable," he said.
