A driver who struck a family of three brothers and sisters with a truck in a child protection zone (school zone) in Gwangju was sent to the prosecution.

The Gwangju Northern Police Department said that Mr. A, in his 50s, who was arrested on charges of killing a 2-year-old girl in a children's protection zone and inflicting 3 casualties (such as mortality under the Specific Crimes Weighted Penalty Act) to the prosecution in the morning (24th) Revealed.

A is accused of hitting a mother in her thirties and three siblings crossing a pedestrian crossing without a traffic light in a children's protection area near an apartment complex in Unam-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, at around 8:45 am on the 17th.

In this accident, a 2-year-old girl in a stroller died, and her mother in her 30s and her 4-year-old sister were severely injured and transferred to a hospital for treatment.

The youngest brother, who is an infant, was also riding in the stroller, but fortunately, she was not seriously injured as the stroller bounced off the side of the truck during the accident.

Mr. A, who stopped the truck right in front of the crosswalk due to traffic congestion, did not find the family in front of the vehicle when the congestion was cleared, and left the vehicle, causing an accident.

The family of the three brothers and sisters crossed the crosswalk without a signal and stopped in front of the freight car without being able to cross the road at one time because the vehicles in the opposite lane did not stop at the crosswalk.

Mr. A stated in a police investigation that "we did not see the victim's family in front of the vehicle."

Based on the surrounding CCTV, vehicle black box, and witness statements, the police decided to send it as a prosecution opinion, considering that Mr. A had inadvertently caused an accident such as violating his duty to look forward.

The charge of killing a second-year-old girl in the school zone was subject to lethality under the Special Law, which is also known as the'Private Diet Act', and the Special Act on Traffic Accidents was applied to the part that hurt her mother.

Separately from Mr. A, the police sent a request for attendance for 4 vehicles that ran without'stopping' at the crosswalk and vehicles to school at day care centers that were parked and stopped illegally, and plan to impose fines or fines on them.

This accident was the second school zone accident this year, where a 7-year-old elementary school student was hit by an SUV and seriously injured in May.
