July of this year is expected to be recorded as the first typhoon in 69 years.

According to the National Typhoon Center of the Korea Meteorological Administration today (31st), no typhoon occurred this month.

Typhoon refers to the central maximum wind velocity of more than 17 meters per second among tropical cyclones generated in the Northwest Pacific, such as around Guam.

It develops mainly when the temperature of the sea level rises above 27 degrees, and the higher the water temperature, the higher the air current develops, resulting in a large typhoon.

Previously, the first typhoon'Bong Pong' on May 12 and the second typhoon'Nuri' occurred on May 12, but it did not affect Korea.

According to the National Typhoon Center, at about 9:00 am today, the tropical cyclone will occur in the sea near 590 km south of Hong Kong, China, and it is expected to develop into the third typhoon'Silacco' within 24 hours. It is being said to do.

As a result, the possibility that the first typhoon did not occur in July this year is likely to be recorded in July.

Since 1951, there has never been a typhoon in July.

The average number of typhoons in July in the last 10 years (2010-2019) was 4.3.

Four typhoons were created in July of last year, one of which affected Korea.

Eight typhoons were created in 2017, but the news of this year's toxic typhoon has not been heard.

The Meteorological Agency's Typhoon Center said, "This year, the North Pacific high pressure is wider than the normal year, and the upward airflow is not developing." Said.

The center forecasts that 9 to 12 typhoons will occur in the Northwest Pacific Ocean this summer, similar to the average year (11.1), of which 2 to 3 (2.3 average) will affect Korea.

The average annual number of typhoons in the last 10 years (2010-2019) was 25.2.

Among them, the number of occurrences in September was 5.3.

It was followed by 4.9 in August and 4.3 in July.

Among them, the average typhoon that affected Korea is 3.9 cases per year.

On the other hand, since 1951 weather observations, there has never been a year when there was no typhoon in August or October.
