American drivers will soon no longer be required to take out their bank card to refuel. Alexa will do it for them. Amazon has announced that its voice assistant will soon be able to pay for its fuel when visiting the service station.

This new functionality will be deployed in 11,500 ExxonMobil service stations in the United States by the end of 2020, reports TechCrunch . In a service station compatible with the new device, the customer will just have to say: "Alexa, pay the gas" ("Alexa pays for gas", in English). Amazon's voice assistant will then verify the location of the gas station and the pump number.

No other country concerned for the moment

Once these elements are validated, it will activate the pump. After filling up, the customer can just leave and payment will be made automatically via Amazon Pay. Obviously, Alexa must be available in the vehicle concerned, which is already the case with several manufacturers (Toyota, Audi Ford). A video explaining the procedure has been posted on YouTube.

"We are excited to bring new technology and a better experience to gas stations," said Eric Carmichael, director of fuel marketing at ExxonMobil, at TechCrunch . “We are looking to develop technologies that will impress our consumers, by offering them both comfort and security. "

No specific launch date has been announced for the United States. Amazon has also not said whether the device could be extended to other countries around the world.
