The Education Executive Agency (DUO) reports against Diploma Nederland, a website that promises to be able to remove study debts from DUO's systems. The service confirms this to NU.nl after reporting in De Tele graaf .
On Diploma Nederland it is claimed that the owners of the website have the option to remove a study debt "officially with the government". For this, someone "only has to pay 10 percent of the total debt" Diploma Nederland, the text says.
But these practices are illegal, says a spokesperson for DUO. "The activities on this site are punishable and undesirable. As always, DUO reports against this site."
It is not clear exactly how Diploma Nederland works. In any case, no money is returned. People who want to have their debt removed must complete a form that includes their full name, citizen service number and the name of the study.
When NU.nl tries to call the mobile number on the Diploma Nederland website, it will not be included. Through WhatsApp the company says: "Sorry, we are not cooperating with that."
It is not clear whether the company has the potential to wipe out a student loan at all, or whether it is an attempt to make money without results.
DUO does not want to respond to many questions, but the spokesperson said that the DUO security system "meets the highest security standards both internally and externally".
