BMW has unveiled the so-called Gran Coupé version of the 2-Series. With this, the brand wants to compete with cars such as the Audi A3 Limousine and the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Contrary to what the name of the new 2-Series suggests, it is on the same front-wheel drive platform as the recently introduced 1-Series. The existing 2-Series Coupé has rear-wheel drive and is still based on the previous 1-Series.
The new model is 4.52 meters long, 1.80 meters wide and 1.42 meters high. As far as the outside dimensions are concerned, the 2-Series Gran Coupé falls in exactly between the aforementioned Mercedes and Audi competitors. The luggage space measures 430 liters.
The 2-Series Gran Coupé distinguishes itself from the 1-Series by a differently drawn bumper and slightly modified headlight units. At the rear, the differences are greater, since it follows the line that was used with the 8-Series.
The new model will be available with three gasoline engines and one diesel engine. The gasoline engines deliver 140, 190 and 306 hp respectively. The latter source of power lies in the provisional top model, the M235i. Elsewhere in the world, BMW delivers another version in the form of the 228i to fill the gap between the top model and the rest.
The 2-Series Gran Coupé will be available at dealers in March 2020.
