The Swedish rallycros stars have long dominated the sport. From 2016 there have only been Swedish world champions. Johan Kristoffersson – the sport's giant with five World Championship titles – is looking forward to new battles with Loeb and believes that the Frenchman will be one of the biggest threats to a sixth title.

"The missed World Cup season will not be a disadvantage for him," Kristoffersson told SVT.

"Rallycross is the perfect discipline"

Loeb drove three World Championship seasons for Swedish Hansen Motorsport. The 49-year-old is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest multi-talents in motorsport. Sebastién's comeback in rallycross will of course be an extra spice.

"Rallycross is the perfect discipline for electric cars. Lots of power and fast heats. It's really fun to drive these cars.

The World Cup series begins in Montalegre, Portugal, June 3-4. SVT broadcasts live from all competitions.
