Morocco ends the 6-year career of Spaniard Martinez with Belgium

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez announced his departure from coaching the team after its exit from the first round of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Martinez said in a press conference, "I decided to leave Belgium before the World Cup. This is the end of my contract. I did not submit my resignation or anything like that."

The historic victory of the Moroccan national team over its Belgian counterpart contributed to the departure of the Spanish coach from his post, after the third world position in 2018 was complicated and he left the competition from the group stage by failing to beat Croatia in the third round.

He explained: “This is my last match with the Belgium national team. I came for a clear mission, which is to go up to the World Cup and continue competing. We have already achieved a bronze medal. I think we will leave a good legacy. We have players who have played more than 100 international matches and therefore deserve to be present. It was 6 Fantastic years and giving us everything we have and that makes me very proud, it's time for me to step down."

He continued, "We played one game well in the World Cup, but fear seized us after that, and we were not up to the responsibility and this led to failure. We created opportunities better than Croatia. We could have shown everyone our true strength, but we missed the opportunity."
