The first round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup matches in Qatar was full of controversial arbitration cases, the latest of which was in the Portugal-Ghana match, which saw a goal for Portugal canceled and a penalty kick awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo, whose validity some questioned.

The first case, in the 30th minute of the first half, was the cancellation of Ismail Al-Fateh, the American referee, who managed the match, with a goal scored by Ronaldo.

And the television footage indicated that the referee's decision was 100 percent correct, because Ronaldo, seconds before scoring the goal, pushed a Ghanaian player inside the penalty area to knock him down and then set off to score directly.

Ronaldo's 'questionable' penalty

The second case that deserved to be stopped was also championed by Ronaldo, but this time it was a penalty kick that was awarded in his favor in the 62nd minute, and it is a difficult controversial case that the referee was close to and watched, of course, by the assistant video “Far” during about a minute during which the referee was making arrangements for the kick.

It is clear from what happened in the stadium that the referee was convinced of his decision, with evidence that he did not go out to watch it on the display screen of the cases of the mouse, and there are two possibilities for the first video referee that he supported the referee’s decision, and this is what I tend to do, and the second is that he did not find clear evidence in the replay footage that there was no violation That is why he was not asked to watch it on screen.

As for me, I see that the referee was close and at a good angle of view and made his decision with rigor and decisiveness, and that Ronaldo succeeded in playing the ball, which is a basic criterion in calculating the violation, but the defender also played the ball and Ronaldo was the one who slowed his speed until the contact occurred in the manner that occurred, so the referee believes that there is Pushing from above or blocking from the foot.

All these considerations make me convinced that there was no violation by the Ghanaian defender and that it was a natural collision with which Ronaldo deceived the referee and even the mouse referees with great cunning, meaning that the penalty kick was incorrect.

Jamal Al-Ghandour, the former international referee and arbitration expert in the “BN Sports” channel studio, confirmed that the penalty kick was also incorrect, and he made many valid legal points.

The best evidence that this case does not contain a violation is that it occurs a lot in parts of the stadium outside the penalty area, and the referee indicates the resumption of play, even Ronaldo himself tried to deceive the referee before it in the first half when the Ghanaian goalkeeper tackled him alone, so Ronaldo rushed to collide with him in the hope of awarding a penalty kick But he was disappointed.
