The body of

American mountaineer and skier Hilaree Nelson

was found in the Himalayas on Wednesday, two days after she went missing on the slopes of Nepal's Mount Manaslu.

"The search team that left this morning by helicopter has located his body and is bringing it back," Jiban Ghimire, from the Shangri-La Nepal Trek, who organized the expedition, told AFP.

The famous

49-year

-old athlete disappeared on Monday after an accident on a ski descent after reaching the eighth highest peak in the world (8,163 meters) with her partner Jim Morrison.

On Monday, the helicopters could not fly over the area due to weather conditions and on Tuesday they returned empty-handed.

The search had resumed on Wednesday with a helicopter also carrying Nelson's partner, Jim Morrison, Jiban Ghimire previously said.

The mountain climber and ski mountaineer is one of the "most prolific of her generation," according to her sponsor, The North Face.

The same day of his disappearance, an avalanche on the Manaslu caused the death of a Nepalese mountaineer and injured a dozen people.
