On Thursday, the first Swedes entered the final session at the European Youth Olympics held in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.

Patricia Kamga fared best, but her start to the competition was shaky.

The 15-year-old was in bad shape after two invalid throws, but was able to save the situation by throwing the hammer 58.94 meters.

That took Kamga through to the final and further throws.

Before the last throw, she was in fourth place, just outside the podium.

Then she hurled the hammer 65.92 meters.

New personal record and secured gold, with almost four meters down to second place.

- What she does is really incredibly strong and shows master quality.

Incredibly impressive, says team manager Dejan Mikovic in a press release.

Patricia Kamga, younger sister of discus thrower Vanessa Kamga, was relieved after the gold.

- I will never do such an exciting competition again, she said with a laugh.

During Thursday, there were also Swedish medals from Ingrid Nilsson who won gold in judo, Romeo Makboul who won silver in badminton and Emmy Hällkvist who won silver in the 100 meter butterfly.
