Foreign media: Swiss court finds Blatter, Platini not guilty of corruption and fraud

On the afternoon of the 8th, according to a number of foreign media sources, a Swiss court ruled that former FIFA President Blatter and former UEFA President Platini were not guilty of corruption and fraud.

In June 2019, former UEFA president Platini was detained by French police in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris, to help investigate corruption in the 2022 Qatar World Cup hosting rights.

The root of the problem began on May 7, 2015, when several FIFA officials and marketing executives were arrested by police in Switzerland and the United States, and the FIFA corruption scandal was finally revealed as the "tip of the iceberg".

Among them, Blatter and Platini's nest case surfaced.

Platini under investigation.

FIFA officially issued a statement on December 21, 2015: then FIFA President Blatter and then UEFA President Platini were banned from participating in football activities for 8 years (subsequently reduced to 4 years), and Fines of 50,000 Swiss francs (about 46,275 euros) and 60,000 Swiss francs (about 53,662 euros) were imposed, respectively.

After the FIFA scandal was exposed, Blatter and others have been living in doubt from the outside world. For this reason, he chose to resign only 5 days after being re-elected as FIFA president.

And he has been targeting Platini.

In an interview with Russia's TASS news agency, he broke the news that the FIFA executive committee originally planned to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in Russia and the United States, respectively.

But Blatter said that has changed since former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the then-Qatar prince met after a lunch with Platini.

In Blatter's view, it was Platini and England and the United States, the losers in the voting process for the right to host the two World Cups, that caused the unfavorable situation for FIFA.

In addition, Platini is suspected of receiving a "disloyal payment" of 2 million Swiss francs (about £1.3 million) paid by Blatter in 2011.

Under Swiss law, "disloyalty remuneration" means that the fee harms the interests of the employer, in this case the interests of FIFA.

Then Platini was "grounded" for 4 years, and his dream of FIFA president was shattered.

For the reformer who was "dramatic" in UEFA, former Korean Football Association chairman Chung Mong-joon said that Platini is also part of the corrupt system.

"It will be very difficult for Platini to move forward with any meaningful reform, Platini enjoys the support of the current FIFA system, of which Mr Platini is a product."

In April 2022, Platini also took aim at his old partner.

He issued an official statement announcing criminal proceedings against Infantino, the current FIFA president, for alleged corruption.

Platini was UEFA president and Infantino was UEFA secretary general.

Platini said in a statement that he had authorized lawyers to file criminal charges against FIFA President Gianni Infantino and former FIFA legal director Marco Villiger, on charges including the use of power for personal gain and corruption.
