Atletico Madrid punished by closing part of its stadium during the Manchester City match

The European Football Association (Wifa) on Monday ordered the Spanish club, Atlético Madrid, to close part of its "Wanda Metropolitano" stadium for its match with its guest, Manchester City, in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, due to "discriminatory behavior" by some of its fans.

Atlético, who lost 0-1 in England in the first leg, will have to decide which departments to close, which "must include at least 5,000 seats" and raise in their place a sign reading "No to racism", according to the European Union's disciplinary body.

On Friday, FIFA opened a disciplinary investigation against the Spanish champion due to the "discriminatory behavior" of his supporters during the first leg of last Tuesday, as well as for "throwing projectiles".

For its part, the Madridist newspaper Marca broadcast a video clip showing Atlético fans performing the Nazi salute in the stands of the Al Ittihad stadium.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the city police have arrested several people and opened proceedings against them for racism and violence.
