The retired international referee in Taekwondo, Ismail Al-Sabri, decided to take a new experience and stay in the sports framework, after a distinguished period that lasted 15 years in leading taekwondo fights, and the same time he spent as a player and coach at Al-Nasr Club, where he practiced multiple sports, so he decided to establish the “Al-Warqa Team” team, Its goal is to discover talents and support runners to develop their level of running in particular.

Al-Sabri is a former player and coach at Al-Nasr Club, and he practiced many sports, including cycling and long-distance running, during which he won gold medals and many cups.

At the level of taekwondo, he is also considered one of the first Emirati players to obtain a black belt (6 dan).

In a previous period, besides arbitration, he was also a member of the Emirates Taekwondo Federation.

Al-Sabri is currently supporting, sponsoring and leading his team, Al-Warqa Team, in athletics, especially long-distance running.

Al-Sabri confirmed to "Emirates Today" that he most popularized the team in October 2020 in Dubai, and looks forward to developing it in the near future to become a specialized non-profit academy that aims to explore and develop players capable of reaching the Olympics and participating in running competitions.

Al-Sabri said: "I decided to retire from arbitration in order to devote myself to serving Emirati sports in another aspect."

He explained: "Al Warqa Team" is sponsored by Jamal Al Shafar, Mai Dubai, Bockari and others, and our goal is to nurture and explore talents in athletics.

The team includes residents of Al Warqa’a area in Dubai, and the door is open to all.

He revealed that the team currently includes 163 runners, including 80 citizens.

He stressed that the ultimate goal is to contribute to making an Emirati Olympic champion in athletics, specifically in long-distance running races, especially the 5,000-10,000-meter category.

He said that great efforts are being made to prepare the runners, under the supervision of Moroccan coach Othman Al-Shuaibi and his team, and said that any distinguished runner will be included in Al-Nasr Club, in fulfillment of the club in which he grew up.

Al-Sabri stressed that he seeks to "invest his sports experience from residential neighborhoods and informal stadiums, where there are many distinguished players who are looking for people to explore and put them on the right path, and this is one of the directions that Al Warqa'a team is working on."
