• If the Russian football championship continues as if nothing had happened, most foreign players have left the country, in the midst of the war in Ukraine.

  • The tricolor international Rémy Cabella (four selections) is one of those, and had his contract suspended Thursday by his Krasnodar club.

  • His presence on Sunday in the Cauldron from Etienne, where he played from 2017 to 2019, aroused great enthusiasm from supporters of the Greens, who can well imagine him coming back.

At the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium,

"We're only talking about the game, huh, though?

When he appeared before a few journalists on Sunday after ASSE's precious victory (1-0) against FC Metz, Rémy Cabella suspected that his personal news aroused great curiosity.

It is still not common for a club to suddenly announce, last Thursday, the suspension of the contracts of eight of the nine foreign players in its workforce.

Due to the war in Ukraine, they preferred to leave Russia, while the championship continues as if nothing had happened, with for example a Krasnodar-Ural on the program this Monday noon.

Present in Saint-Etienne on Sunday before returning to see his family in Corsica, Rémy Cabella is one of those players.

A great vagueness therefore now surrounds the short-term future of the 31-year-old attacking midfielder, under contract until June 2022 with the Russian club.

The press release from Krasnodar clearly states that he will have to wait for "the final termination" of his contract to find a new club.

Wouldn't it still be possible to see the player with four selections with the France team make a short freelance to try to save ASSE in Ligue 1?

He will prepare physically for next season

“No, for the moment, I am first waiting for it to end with my club, confides Rémy Cabella.

I still have a few months to think about what I'm going to do.

I will prepare myself physically to be in good shape next season.

“Everything suggests that he will therefore be led to make a free commitment with the club of his choice for the 2022-2023 season.

Could this possibly be Saint-Etienne, where Rémy Cabella enjoyed a crowd bath, late Sunday morning, during a signing session organized at the club shop?

The interested party, however trained in Montpellier and having played as long at OM as at Sainté, returned to this great proximity with the green people.

It's incredible to come back here, I didn't expect such a warm welcome, it touched me a lot.

It's been three years since I left.

I only did two seasons here [16 goals in Ligue 1 from 2017 to 2019] but I feel like I played there ten years.

I get on well with the supporters here, it's a good connection.

When I was not playing with Krasnodar at the same time, I always watched the matches of the Greens.

“I will not refuse a return from Rémy Cabella”

This is why Rémy Cabella was in the Saint-Etienne locker room after the victory against Metz.

“It's nice to see him, he congratulated us,” appreciates Denis Bouanga, the only scorer in this match allowing ASSE (17th) to leave the red zone.

"He's really a great person and I hope the situation will work out for him," continues his former partner Mahdi Camara.

Relaunched by a journalist on the assumption of seeing him strengthen the Saint-Etienne workforce in the coming months, the midfielder of the Greens had a good laugh: “You can imagine that I will not refuse a return from Rémy Cabella”.

Neither do the vast majority of Greens supporters.
