FIFA suspends a Senegalese player minutes before his participation in the African Cup against Guinea

The International Football Association (FIFA) has announced the suspension of Senegalese national team player, Pape Guy, who is currently participating with his country in the African Nations Cup in Cameroon, due to a problem in his transfer process between French clubs Marseille and Watford, England, according to national team coach Aliou Cissé yesterday.

Before joining Marseille in 2021, Gaye signed an initial contract with Watford.

"There are administrative problems between Watford and Marseille over the transfer," Cisse said in a video seen by Agence France-Presse. "Therefore, FIFA suspended him."

"We were informed of the decision five minutes before the match, as we informed his lawyer this morning, but shortly before kick-off we got the confirmation. That is why we did not include him in the official list," the Senegalese coach said.

The 22-year-old midfielder participated from the bench with the Senegalese team in its opening match, which ended in a 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe, but he did not participate in the confrontation with Guinea, which ended in a goalless draw yesterday.

"As a result, as long as we do not resume, he cannot play with us," Cisse added.

"This is another problem that has happened to us like many other problems since the start of the African Cup," he added.
