The absence of international goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, the Saudi national team goalkeeper and Al-Ahly club, was confirmed for a long time, after the tests he underwent on Wednesday, after he was injured in the “Green” match against China on Tuesday in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Saudi Federation said in a statement, "The magnetic resonance imaging scan that was conducted on the player Mohammed Al-Owais after the injury he sustained during the national team match yesterday, confirmed the presence of an injury to the inner collateral ligament of the left knee."
Press reports indicated that Al-Owais (30 years old) will miss two months from the stadiums.
Al-Owais suffered a severe injury after a joint ball with the Chinese striker Elkeson, causing the Saudi goalkeeper to fall to the ground, holding his knee.
Attempts by the medical system to treat Al-Owais failed, so French coach Herve Renard made an emergency change to substitute goalkeeper Fawaz Al-Qarni in the 69th minute, before the latter made a fatal mistake in receiving the second Chinese goal.
The player tweeted after his injury, "Thank you to everyone who asked about me and communicated with me, and thank you to the Saudi audience for your beautiful feelings. We are all one hand, and God willing, we support each other and reach the World Cup."
The Saudi team led the second group, 3 points behind Australia, after its difficult victory over its guest, the Chinese team, 3-2 at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, in the qualifiers for the decisive round of qualifying for the World Cup finals.
