Greek police said Monday that Portuguese soccer defender Ruben Semedo has been arrested following allegations that he sexually assaulted an underage girl.

Semedo, 27, a player for the Greek league champion Olympiacos, was arrested yesterday, Sunday, after a 17-year-old girl complained to the police that she had been sexually assaulted at the player's home near the capital, Athens.

Police said another man is wanted for questioning over allegations of sexual assault.

Semedo's lawyer, Stavros Gorgopoulos, confirmed that the player denied the allegations against him.

Semedo appeared in court on Monday to present evidence and was given 24 hours to prepare his defense.

Semedo previously played in Villarreal, Spain, and participated in 3 international matches with the Portugal national team, knowing that he moved to the Greek League two years ago.
