Belgian World Cup rally, this year's eighth race, a challenge on difficult, narrow asphalt roads with varying grips where minimal mistakes can have major consequences.

Something many of the top drivers experienced during the introductory day, including the Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux who crashed on stretch three.

Solberg drives in the WRC2 class in Belgium and makes his debut this weekend with the team's brand new car that the 19-year-old was involved in and developed during the year.

Today's competition premiere with the car was the first time Solberg drove it on dry asphalt.

Halfway through the day, he was in second place in his class 22 seconds behind the Finn Teemu Suninen.

- It has been a fun day, there is a lot to take in.

It is the first day on dry asphalt and we only had one day test with the new car and a lot to learn, it just gets better and better and we learn new things all the time so we just drive calmly and nicely now, says Oliver Solberg at the lunch service .

Solberg took over the lead on section seven

During the afternoon, several of Solberg's competitors had problems, including Suninen, who lost its lead.

A visit to a field resulted in a puncture and an overheated engine for Suninen who was forced to stop for several minutes on the last leg of the day, and he crashed to third place in the overall.

At the same time as several of the competitors had problems, Solberg finished strong and took over the lead in the class on the last leg of the day, also with a great feeling in the car.

- I think I did a fantastic distance.

It is probably the best stretch I have ever done on asphalt, says Oliver in the interview at the end of the stretch.

Ahead of tomorrow's eight distances, Oliver Solberg leads by almost three minutes to second place Jari Huttunen, who was destroyed on Friday due to a puncture on the last stretch, which cost him over two minutes in lost time.

Solberg is also in tenth place overall in the rally, all classes included.

Kristensson was forced to break

Reigning junior world meter Tom Kristensson started strong in the WRC2 class and was very pleased with the start, on the second leg of the day he had third time among the R5 cars.

- We have a good feeling!

Now we want to maintain this flow and focus on one distance at a time.

Really nice roads here in Ypres so I have nothing to complain about, Kristensson wrote on social media after two distances.

But in the late afternoon, Kristensson and map reader David Arnhusiander encountered problems and the duo was forced to break.

“Small mistake with big consequences.

We are forced to break with a damaged shock absorber.

Now we have to take and examine the car in service to see if it is possible to start again tomorrow.

Sad end to an otherwise cruel day "writes Kristensson in social media.

The Saturday stage contains eight distances, for a total of 119.92 full-speed kilometers.
