Fur is widely used in the fashion world.

For 20 years, awareness of animal welfare has encouraged creators to move into the synthetic niche.

But some have gone further and now offer completely vegetable fur.

Your innovation of the day could help create fashion, both ethical and ecological.

This is the first 100% vegetable faux fur.

Fur has always been associated with luxury and fashion.

Problem: since the beginning of the 2000s and the campaigns "rather naked, than in fur", most designers have fallen back on fake fur.

Now, a new problem: this fake fur is made of synthetic fibers, based on plastic and petroleum derivatives.

After the animal cause, it is now the ecological cause that could sound a new halt.

Yet it is a material that fashionistas adore both for its style and its softness.

This new faux fur, 100% vegetable, could therefore reconcile everyone.

100% vegetable?

What exactly is it made of?

In hemp fibers mixed with viscose of wood pulp.

It gives a very raw look that looks like sheepskin.

In addition, the weaving reproduces the texture of animal furs: a very short pile that retains heat.

And a longer pile that creates an insulating layer and prevents being warmed by the sun.

We therefore find the softness, softness and breathability without the "carpet, static electricity" side of synthetic products.

It is a Ukrainian creation of the startup DevoHome.

Are there no ecological risks with hemp?

No, it's a crop that needs very little water and easily dispenses with pesticides. You know, until the 19th century, the majority of textiles and ropes were made from hemp. Even Levi's first jeans were made of hemp. It was not until the 20th century that we switched to cotton and synthetics. It could therefore reappear in fashion. Especially since France is the second largest producer of industrial hemp in the world (no Cannabis).
