January 1, 2018 marked the end of an era: On that day, Phil Taylor played his last game as a professional.

And lost.

At the end of the World Cup final, Rob Cross celebrated.

Now, three years and three months later, the 60-year-old Brit announced his return.

With 16 world championship titles in his 30-year professional career, he is the most successful player in darts history.

Another title could now be added - but at a special World Cup.

He wrote on Twitter: “I am delighted to be invited to the first Senior Darts World Championship.

Be sure that I want to win it too. ”The Senior World Championship is to be a version of the previous Darts World Championship for players over 50 and will be held for the first time in February 2022.

Three really big ones in the scene will probably be missing

According to the British "Mirror", Taylor should not be the only ex-world champion to be involved in the Senior World Cup.

At least 14 previous champions are said to have been invited, including Bob Anderson, Martin Adams, Andy Fordham, Richie Burnett, John Lowe, Dennis Priestley, John Part and Les Wallace.

Winning the Senior World Cup should be rewarded with almost 30,000 euros.

One possible venue is London.

Three really big ones in the scene are likely to be missing.

Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Raymond van Barneveld are all older than 50 years, but as active professionals they have a PDC Tour Card and are therefore not allowed to fight for victory in tournaments of other organizers.

"We have a big structural problem in German darts"

Host Lutz Wöckener Elmar Paulke has invited himself to the big World Cup review.

The voice of the darts illuminates the finals and the greatest World Cup moments, names disappointments and surprises.
