For Ajax Amsterdam, you might think it's a week to forget.

On Thursday it became public that there had been a momentous mistake in the nomination of the squad for the Europa League.

The former Frankfurt Sébastien Haller, whom the traditional Dutch club recently brought from West Ham United for a lot of money, is not on the squad list.

On Friday it became known that the European association Uefa had banned André Onana, the goalkeeper of Ajax, for a doping violation for twelve months.

The ban is effective immediately and for all national and international competitions.

Onana had been checked on October 30th last year.

The substance furosemide was detected in the urine.

Onana, the club said on Friday, felt uncomfortable that day and took the drug Lasimac, which his wife had previously been prescribed.

The Uefa, however, refers to the applicable anti-doping rules, according to which an athlete is obliged at all times to ensure that no prohibited substances enter the body.

Ajax wants to appeal

Onana and Ajax have already announced that they will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

"We had hoped for a conditional suspension or a much shorter one than this twelve months because it was not intended to strengthen his body and thus improve his performance," said Ajax managing director Edwin van der Sar.

The ban is the second bitter news for the club.

With regard to Haller's personality, trainer Erik ten Hag had spoken of an administrative error, “something with computers.

Put a tick or not.

Something went wrong.

He was on the list as normal.

We will do everything possible to convince Uefa of this. ”Ten Hag added at a press conference that he was ultimately responsible together with sports director Marc Overmars.

"This mistake was not made on purpose, but of course it is incredibly annoying for Haller."

However, Uefa announced on Friday that Haller will definitely not be allowed to play in the Europa League, where Ajax will face Lille OSC on February 18 and 25.

Haller moved from West Ham United to Ajax in January for € 22.5 million.

According to the internet portal “NU.nl”, never before has a Dutch club paid such a high amount for a player.
