Yesterday, Al-Wehda club announced that it was unable to travel and play the AFC Champions League matches within the group stage competitions, which will be completed next Monday, due to the infection of a number of members of the "Annabi" team with the new Corona virus.

In a press release published on its official account on the social networking site "Twitter", Al-Wehdah stated that the club's management informed the UAE Football Association that the team was unable to travel and play the AFC Champions League 2020 matches "now", as a result of a number of team members being infected with the virus. He added: "The UAE federation, in turn, conveyed the club's message to the AFC, and requested that the remaining matches in the group stage be postponed, as the AFC refused to respond to the club and the Football Association's request, and decided to refer the matter to the relevant committees in the AFC."

He continued, "The club hopes to receive fairness from the relevant committees, and take into account the reasons beyond control, which prevented, during the last moments, from preparing for the championship competitions."

On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council confirmed in its official account on "Twitter" that, in cooperation with the Department of Health and the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, it will implement preventive and precautionary measures after suspected infection with the "Covid-19" virus within the Al-Wahda club staff, where all contacts were placed in quarantine. Health for a period of 14 days, with the necessary examinations performed according to the approved protocol.

Accordingly, he said, the team and the accompanying cadre would not be able to travel and participate in the AFC Championships, to complete the quarantine period, which overlaps with the timing of the tournament matches.

For his part, the AFC confirmed that it had received an official letter from the unit, during which it announced its inability to travel to Qatar in order to complete the Asian (West) champions, after confirming the positive results of members of the team with the emerging Corona virus.

In an official statement on its website, the "Asian" stated that he had addressed the Emirates Federation, and informed him that his request and that of the Unity Club could not be met, and that he had decided to refer the matter to the competent committees in the continental federation.

It is noteworthy that Al-Wehda is runner-up in Group A in the current version of the Asian champions, with four points, equal with Al-Ahly of Saudi Arabia, with the same score, but Al-Raqi excels by goal difference.
