ROME (Reuters) - Eight-times champions Juventus put their arch-rivals Inter under pressure when they temporarily snatched the top spot with a 2-0 home win over lowly Spal on Saturday in the opening round of the sixth Serie A game.

Mirjalem Pjanic (45) and Cristiano Ronaldo (78) scored the goals, the third goal for the Don this season.

Juventus have continued their awakening since falling into a goalless draw at Fiorentina in the third phase, winning their third and fifth successive season this season, taking their tally to 16 points, one point ahead of Inter Milan, who are later guest of Sampdoria partner Spal in the last place. Juventus will meet at a summit at the San Siro in the "Derby of Italy" next Sunday.

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri pushed veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon for the first time at the expense of Polish Wojciech Szczesny, playing his first 903 club match in all competitions (658 with Juventus, 220 with Parma and 25 last season with Paris Saint-Germain). An Italian who shared with Paolo Maldini (902 all with Milan), the latter has the record in the number of games in the Serie A (647 vs 641 for Buffon).

This is Buffon's second game for Juventus since his return to the club this summer after a season at Paris St Germain, after the first against Hilaas Verona in the fourth stage.

Juventus struggled in the first half in front of the defensive bloc of guests, and their Albanian goalkeeper Ettret Berisha, who had several attempts to shine.

Juventus's most notable chances came from a shot by Ronaldo from inside the area in the hands of goalkeeper Berisha (7), a header of the German Sami Khedira next to the left post (8), and then a shot "on the bird" of Ronaldo from close range, goalkeeper Berisha (19).

Aaron Ramsay missed an easy opportunity to score from Ronaldo's cross and put it in place of goalkeeper Berisha.

Juventus continued their pressure in the second half and the guests' goalkeeper brilliantly scored Khedira's header from close range after a pass from Ronaldo (54), then confronted Lanfradin to Dybala (66) and Ronaldo (68), and then brilliantly scored a powerful shot for the latter from within the area (74).

Berisha denied Ronaldo the double by taking his shot on the bird from close range to a corner that did not produce a goal in stoppage time.
