Farmer damaged by typhoon No.15 ready for next year's strawberry picking Chiba Tateyama September 26 12:26

A strawberry farm in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, which was damaged by Typhoon No. 15, began repairing an agricultural house and planting seedlings in preparation for strawberry picking from January of next year.

In Tateyama City, where strawberry cultivation is thriving, taking advantage of the warm climate, the typhoon caused damage to the agricultural house.

Of these, the farmhouse of Mr. Kazumasa Ota (52), who has been cultivating strawberries for about 50 years since his father's generation, has had its seats blown and some of the frames collapsed.

Still, the seedlings were not damaged because they were before planting, and Mr. Otawa started the planting work after replacing the house sheet with the remaining frame.

Planting is about a week later than usual, but the strawberry hunting that starts on January 2 next year will not be affected.

Also, in this area, strawberries harvested every January since 1960 have been donated to the imperial family, and all local farmers are enthusiastic about making high quality products as usual.

Mr. Otawa said, “We didn't expect this much damage, but everyone is desperately working hard to open the strawberry hunting, so please come to play.”
