US President Donald Trump has called on Congress to withdraw US approval of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). At an event organized by the weapons lobby organization NRA, he signed a letter to the Senate on Friday in Indianapolis to end the ratification process. The treaty is intended to restrict and regulate arms deliveries across borders.

"Americans live by American laws, not by the laws of other countries," said Trump. He promised the gun lobbyist not to violate the US constitution's right to possess firearms. The US had agreed to the treaty during the presidency of Barack Obama as a total of 154 countries, but never put it like other countries in force.

The US president said that violent crime in the US has fallen. Big city killings were down six percent, he said, without mentioning a comparable period. Thirty states have now allowed teachers in the classroom to carry firearms - a Trump claim after the school bombing in Parkland, Florida, of 17 dead.

The US is the world's largest arms exporter. According to information from the CNN channel, the NRA raised more than $ 30 million in donations to Trump's campaign camp in the 2016 election campaign.
