Hundreds of migrants from Honduras have passed the Guatemalan border with Mexico via a fence on their way to the US. TV pictures showed a large crowd pushing through a gate at a border post near the Guatemalan city of Tecún Umán.

Policemen tried to hold people back with shields. Some migrants overcame the police chain just beyond the border fence. Others were easily injured in the crush. Stones flew in the direction of police officers. On a border bridge between Mexico and Guatemala formed long rows of people.

Between 3000 and 6000 people had gathered at the border since the beginning of the week, many of them children and women. Your destination is the USA. US President Donald Trump had threatened Mexico via Twitter, the neighboring country had to stop the "onslaught" of migrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Otherwise, he will turn on the US military and close the southern border of the USA.

.... In addition to stopping all payments to those countries, which must have no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if not to do so I will call up the US Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER! ..

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was concerned about the situation during a visit to Mexico. A migration crisis is underway, Pompeo said at a meeting with his Mexican counterpart Luis Videgaray. He and Videgaray had talked about the importance of stopping the migrants from Central America before they reached the US border, Pompeo said. Videgaray emphasized Mexico's sovereignty in dealing with migrants. "Mexico's migration policy is destined for Mexico," said the Foreign Minister.

Mexico has announced that it will not let the migrants move on without proper papers. The people of Honduras need a visa to enter Mexico. Another option is to apply for asylum, this process can take up to three months.

Honduras is one of the world's highest violent countries, especially because of the powerful gangs and drug trafficking. Around 68 percent of the nine million inhabitants live in poverty.
