Following the publication of the Mueller report, US Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Investigative report by Special Rapporteur Robert Mueller proves that "a hostile foreign government attacked our 2016 election to help Donald Trump and that Donald Trump welcomed this aid," Warren said Friday. The Democrats demanded the full publication of the Mueller report.

Report on the Russian AffairWhat Robert Mueller really found out about Donald Trump

After his entry into the White House Trump had hampered the investigation into the attack on the presidential election, Warren wrote in the short message service Twitter. "This means that the House of Representatives should initiate a process of impeachment against the President of the United States."

Warren called on Democrats and Republicans in the House of Representatives to overcome the trenches between the parties and jointly launch an impeachment trial. From a constitutional point of view, that was their duty, argues the left-leaning senator, who wants to move to the White House in 2020.

However, such a procedure has little chance of success, as it would require a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which is dominated by Trump's Republicans.

The final report of the Special Investigator on the Russia affair had been published on Thursday. Mueller had spent almost two years investigating contacts between the Trump team and Russia during the 2016 election campaign. He also followed the presumption of judicial obstruction by the president.

448 pages include the Mueller report - how much blackened, shows this overview

Two key messages dominate the report, which is presented in a partially blacked-out version:

  • There is no confirmation of possible illegal agreements between Trump's campaign team and Russia
  • But Mueller concludes that Trump's team was hoping to benefit from Russia's interference.
  • The President is expressly not acquitted of the allegation of possible disability in the report.

Trump still feels completely relieved. The report was written by "angry democratic Trump haters", many statements in it are "total bullshit" ("total bullshit"), he tweeted on Friday.

The opposition Democrats, on the other hand, see the report as confirming the president's "dishonest" and "immoral" behavior. They want to use their recently obtained majority in the House of Representatives to keep the issues addressed by Special Rapporteur Mueller in the public debate.

The Democrats demanded on Friday the publication of the full investigation report. Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the House of Representatives, has given the Ministry of Justice a deadline of May 1. Even the blackened version provides evidence of Trump's wrongdoing, said Nadler. Now Congress must determine "the full extent" of the violations and decide what action should be taken. On May 23, Mueller wants to question himself.

Headwind came for Trump also from their own ranks. He was "disgusted" by the extent of dishonesty in the White House, said former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. He was appalled that some of Trump's campaign team members had welcomed aid from Russia and none of them had alarmed the law enforcement agencies.

Most other Republicans, however, were covered. Senator Marco Rubio tweeted on Friday that he was "relieved" that the accusation of illegal collusion between Trump's campaign team and Russia had not been substantiated.
