Islamic Jihad spokesman Tariq Salmi (Al Jazeera)

Yesterday, Monday, the Islamic Jihad movement announced that the Israeli occupation army had arrested the movement’s media spokesman in the Gaza Strip, Tariq Salami, and subjected him to abuse.

The movement said, in a post on the Telegram platform, “We condemn the enemy army’s arrest and abuse of Tariq Salmi, the movement’s media spokesman.”

The movement held Israel "fully responsible for his safety."

The movement did not explain the reasons for Salmi’s arrest or the date of his arrest, while Israel did not issue any comment on the matter.

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive infrastructure destruction, which led to Tel Aviv appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide.

Since the first days of the war on Gaza, the occupation forces have launched a massive campaign of raids and arrests in various parts of the West Bank, during which about 460 Palestinians were martyred and hundreds of others were injured. The Israeli army also arrested more than 8,100 Palestinians in the West Bank, and more than 4,000 others from the Gaza Strip.
