Senegal: sober transfer of power between Sidiki Kaba and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko

In Senegal, the new Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, officially appointed on Tuesday April 2, took office Monday April 8 in the morning, during a sober handover ceremony with his predecessor Sidiki Kaba. The two men wished each other good luck for the future. Upon leaving, Ousmane Sonko promised to get to work quickly while the rest of the government team should start working after the Korité festival on April 10, according to the new Prime Minister.

The handovers in the other ministries will take place in the coming hours and days so that the

ministries can be operational immediately

after the Korité festival, which should take place on Wednesday April 10, explained Ousmane Sonko at the end of the ceremony.

Monday morning, Sidiki Kaba and his

successor Ousmane Sonko

spoke for around 1h30 at the Prime Minister's office. They passed the files on to each other. Outgoing Prime Minister Sidiki Kaba spoke of a sober and solemn transfer of power and congratulated his successor to whom he wished every success

in the face of numerous expectations

. He also praised the vitality of Senegalese democracy which has allowed three political changes in 24 years.

For his part, Ousmane Sonko welcomed the continuity of service which, according to him, will allow us to serve the Senegalese people. He also praised the “ 

impeccable

 ” years of service of his predecessor. He will not have held this position for long but Sidiki Kaba was Minister of the Interior before becoming Prime Minister at the beginning of March following Amadou Ba's departure for the campaign. Throughout his career, he has held numerous ministerial chairs, in Justice and Foreign Affairs.

Sidiki Kaba left the premises at the end of the morning and Ousmane Sonko took possession of his new offices immediately. The new Minister of the Interior Jean-Baptiste Tine took office in the afternoon
